The City of Fort St. John has received a grant to improve the safety and usability of the trails in the Community Forest. Stage one of the work is the removal of hazardous trees along all of the trails within the Community Forest. The contractor is removing any hazards within a 30 metre range of the trails, and will be chipping the trees that are felled and re-introducing the chips back to the forest floor. This stage of the project will be ongoing until the end of March 2010. In May, both coniferous and deciduous seedlings will be planted in the forest to replace the trees that were cut down.

As part of this project, the City will also be improving the signage in the Community Forest, installing more garbage cans and picnic tables, replacing the decking on the bridges and repairing some of the wooden stairways on the trail system. These projects will take place later this spring.

While we are working on these upgrades, please obey all signs posted for your safety.
