DAWSON CREEK, B.C., 
March 24, 2010 – The world’s top women’s teams are set to rock Dawson Creek!  The Capital One Grand Slam of Curling announced today that 2010 Olympic silver medallist Cheryl Bernard (Calgary, Alta.), four-time Tournament of Hearts champion and 2008 World Championship gold medallist Jennifer Jones (Winnipeg, Man.), 2007 World Championship gold medallist Kelly Scott (Kelowna, B.C.), and 2006 Olympic bronze medallist Shannon Kleibrink (Calgary, Alta.) will headline the women’s elite 16-team Grey Power Players’ Championship field. The final 2009-10 Capital One Grand Slam of Curling event, the Grey Power Players’ Championship will feature both a women’s and men’s draw.  The tournament is scheduled to take place at the EnCana Events Centre in Dawson Creek, B.C. from April 13-18, 2010.  

Among the other notable world class teams that will take to the ice at the EnCana Events Centre include 2008 Players’ Champion Amber Holland (Regina, Sask.), Russia’s 2010 and 2006 Olympic representative Liudmilla Privivkova(Moscow, Russia), and two-time Saskatchewan provincial champion Stefanie Lawton (Saskatoon, Sask.).

 

The following is a complete list of the 16 women’s teams which will compete at the Grey Power Players’ Championship. The event features a triple knockout format along with a total purse of $100,000 (CDN).

 

 

The men’s 16-team field for the Grey Power Players’ Championship was previously announced on March 17.  A complete overview of the men’s field can be viewed by visiting www.grandslamofcurling.com.

 

The Grey Power Players’ Championship is also the final event where teams can earn points towards the annual Capital One Cup. The top women's and men’s teams on the Capital One Cup standings following the Grey Power Players’ Championship will each receive $50,000 (CDN).  The second and third place men’s and women’s squads will each receive $25,000 (CDN) and $10,000 (CDN) respectively.  Heading into the season’s final Capital One Grand Slam of Curling event, Jones sits atop of the women’s standings with 21 points while Glenn Howard (Coldwater, Ont.) leads the men’s standings with 16 points. Held annually since 2001-02, the Capital One Grand Slam of Curling features the world’s best players in one series.

 

As part of its exclusive agreement, CBC will air live playoff coverage of the first three men’s 2009-10 Capital One Grand Slam of Curling events.  CBC will also broadcast the men’s and women’s finals of the 2010 Grey Power Players’ Championship.
