The Fort St. John Olympic Torch Relay route was unveiled at City Hall on Tuesday morning.

Mayor Bruce Lantz announced the route will begin at Heritage Manor on 107th Avenue. It will then move south on 100th Street and west on 100th Avenue.  The route will continue south on 108th street and then east on 97th Avenue, and end at Centennial Park.

Lantz also announced another torchbearer for the city.

13 year-old Jamie Lee will be carrying the torch and speed skating at the same time, on Bert Bowes’ outdoor oval. The young Elks Speed Skating member says she has mixed feelings about carrying the coveted torch.

But she says she's also honored to represent speed skating in Fort St. John. Jamie says her dream is to one day compete in the Olympics.

Her mother, Anita Lee, says Jamie has worked hard for an opportunity like this, and she will support her daughter in whatever she wants to do.

Jamie says she clearly remembers the day her parents told her that she would be carrying the torch in Fort St. John's relay, slated for January 31st.

Rick Lee, Jamie's father, praised his daughter’s hard work. Rick says both of his children are naturals when it comes to speed skating.

The family says the Enerplex has been a blessing to the Elks Speed Skating Club. The Lee's say they enjoy spending the day inside the building, practicing the sport.

Jamie Lee is the third torchbearer announced in Fort St. John. Other torchbearers include Calvin Osterlund, and longtime resident Ross H. MacLean.

please change the torch route

with cameras on the torch bearers , why would you show to the rest of the province( and probly canada) the worst areas of town? lets just march past all the outdated buildings in town, turn right at the pile of garbage(half hazard fence) wher the old fart hotel was, cruise past condill and the sally anne, and while your at it , may as well show off central trailer court and some more run down apts. good grief!!! not to mention no parking for all the people who may come to see. hmmmm. lets not go near the mall or the enerplex or high school, there might be too much parking in that end of town. one of the torch runners will and may train at the expensive enerplex. Where is the tar and feathers when you need them!!!

Agreed-born & raised here.

Consider what Google Maps has done. We can now drive up to every address in the city of FSJ. It is conceivable that a true population count of residents in FSJ could be done as well. The route indicated does show the slum areas of the city. Why not use 100th Ave to 86th Street, near the High School and the slum South ridge Trailer Park and down 93RD Ave to the Mall and The Enerplex? Re: Population, does the recent announcement of FSJ population include some 6,000 to 8,000 residents of Charlie Lake? IF SO: That indicates the true population of FSJ at around 11,000 which is smaller than Dawson Creek. It does not take that long to check the telephone directory.
