Fort St. John Mayor Bruce Lantz says the Buy American Deal will benefit the Peace Region.
On Friday, the Canadian Government announced it has struck a deal with the U-S, and now, Canadian companies will be exempt from the Buy American provisions set last year.
Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty says the deal will provide permanent access for Canadian businesses that want to bid on U-S infrastructure projects.
The U-S stimulus money is allocated for roads, public housing and other infrastructure projects. Lantz says that news is not only good for Canada, but for Fort St. John as well.
Other municipal leaders are welcoming the news as well. CBC quotes North Bay, Ontario Mayor Victor Fedeli as calling the announcement a "sweet victory."
