FNFN steps back from Treaty 8 Tribal Association

The Fort Nelson First Nation is no longer a member community of Treaty 8 Tribal Association.

Both Treaty 8 and Fort Nelson First Nation have confirmed the move.

Chief Kathie Dickie refused to comment, stating the issue is too premature to discuss. Treaty 8 Spokesperson Richard Resener said the departure is a "non-issue, and has to do with administrative relationships." However, he would not provide further details.

Treaty 8 now represents five member communities including the Doig River First Nations, Halfway River First Nations, Prophet River First Nations, Saulteau First Nations and West Moberly First Nations.

However, FNFN is still listed as a Treaty 8 Signatory, along with the Blueberry River First Nations and the McLeod Lake First Nations.

Treaty 8 Tribal Association provides member communities support on various issues as mandated by the Council of Treaty 8 Tribal Association Chiefs. It also provides advisory services and claims research.
