Faulty switch in Alberta causes power outage in Fort Nelson

Monday, March 1, 2010

Power has been restored in the community of Fort Nelson after an outage that caused over 3,000 customers to go without power for 5 hours.

BC Hydro reports there were four separate outages that had people from Prophet River to Fort Nelson sitting in the dark.  They all started around 3 p.m. (PST), the two largest outages were caused by an equipment failure.  Hydro says the problem was with a faulty transmission switch at a location somewhere in Alberta.  A smaller outage was caused by fire and the forth was also caused by equipment failure.

Power was restored to all the areas around 8:45 p.m. (PST)
