A youth curling team from the Peace Region is heading to the National Championships.
The Dawson Creek rink earned its spot at the Canadian Championships with a win in the Alberta Juvenile Championships in Wainwright this past weekend.
It wasn’t an easy road, with the team forced to play through the district championships in Grande Prairie in January, before advancing to the Alberta championships. At the provincial championship, Jordan Steinke’s rink was tied for first place after the round robin, forcing a playdown on Sunday morning.
It’s not the first time a rink from Northern B.C. has won the Alberta Championships, with Travis Cooper’s Fort St. John rink accomplishing the feat two years ago. But, the Steinke rink went into the Alberta championship as an underdog, and skip Jordan Steinke says “we expected to be close to the top, but not quite win it” adding “it worked out well.”
Steinke says his team’s strength is its sweeping, saying “our sweeping is insane … they’re just perfect in almost every way.”
The rink is comprised of skip Jordan Steinke (17), third Jason Ginter (16), second Tristan Steinke (14), and lead Sanjay Bowry (16). The team is coached by Jeff Ginter and Don Bourassa.
The team will now head to the Canadian Championships, set for the beginning of April, in Regina.

Way to go, boys!

Good job, boys! We will be rooting for you in Regina! Nice to see your hard work pay off.
