A Fort John man, accused of killing an Edmonton sex trade worker, began a preliminary hearing on Monday.

24 year-old Joseph Laboucan is being charged with second-degree murder in the death of 33 year-old Ellie May Meyer.

Meyer's body was found in 2005, in Strathcona County.

The CBC reports that Laboucan is already serving a life sentence for the kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault and first-degree murder of 13 year-old Nina Courtepatte.

capital punishment

this is a prime example of why capital punishment should be the norm. I do not want my tax dollars supporting this sick SOB in prison. hang the bastard!!

Agreed!

Criminal justice system? Lack of justice more like it. This killer should be locked up forever, both murders were absolutely brutal. This Laboucan fellow has been in the news connected to a vehicular death a few years ago as well, where he was in a stolen vehicle that broadsided a mother and children. Enough blood on his hands one would think. But then, this is Canada, where the only crime that really gets you locked up is hunting in a National park. Crimestoppers in the Edmonton Sun a couple of weeks ago had us on the lookout for a convicted murderer who had disappeared while on day parole. He was supposed to be serving a life sentence. As the convict was only 28, makes me wonder just how old he had to be when convicted in order to qualify for day parole.
