Pilot project encouraging skilled foreign recruitment

Wednesday, June 24, 2009

The Fort St. John and District Chamber of Commerce has been chosen to be one of four organizations to participate in a six month pilot project.

The project will focus on providing employers with easy access to the information they need to recruit, train and retain foreign workers.

Chamber Manager Annette Oak says while the economy isn't booming just yet, there are signs the turnaround may not be far off. She says when this happens, the City should be ready.

Oak says the Chamber will be distributing brochures called, “Quick Links to Hiring Foreign Workers", to local businesses.

The newly-updated pamphlets have helpful hints and links to hiring foreign workers.

Meanwhile, Oak says businesses are expected to look for skilled Canadian workers before they pursue this option.

in this economy at this

in this economy at this time, with so many unemployed i find the timing of this project in bad taste but its nice that they say we should be expected to try to find canadian workers that are unemployed first.either there so far behind the times ,or they got a pretty good crystal ball over there at the chamber offices...curious..
