Another wind project gets approval

Another wind project has passed environmental assessment near Tumbler Ridge.

Capital Power L.P. has received an environmental assessment certificate for the proposed Quality Wind Project.

The $455 million project would include 79 wind turbine generators, one substation, a 22-kilometre transmission line and could produce 142-megawatts of power. The facility would be located approximately 10 kilometres northeast of Tumbler Ridge.

If constructed, the province says the project could produce $98 million in local and provincial taxes over its 25-year lifespan.

The environmental assessment concluded the project is not likely to have significant adverse effects, based on mitigation measures and commitments.

The project will still need to obtain the necessary provincial licences, leases and other approvals before moving forward.
