Residents often refer to the park on 86th Street and 101 Avenue as Surerus Park.
Last night, City Council made it official, by naming the park after long-time financial contributor Brian Surerus.
Mayor Bruce Lantz says Surerus made it possible to construct the numerous ball-diamonds, tennis courts, and soccer fields in the park.

To commemorate the announcement, council also unanimously voted to have a sign constructed at the park, similar to the blue arched sign near Centennial Park.
The cost for the sign totals $3,800 and will come out of the Council Contingency Account.
