If heading southbound on the Alaska Highway, turn right at the last set of lights by Troyer. Keep to the left curve of the road... look straight ahead. You'll see a big red building (now Ladco Mulchers) and we are right beside that, in a blue building with an SPCA sign on the side. Follow the barking!

Picture this.... a shelter full of dogs, all desperate to get outside for some fresh air, a bathroom break and some stress-free time away from the shelter. What do they need most? YOU!
 
Unfortunately, today is a normal day. We are often lacking in people to walk dogs when the shelter has an abundance of pets. As much as I love to walk dogs, I cannot take them all out, and it breaks my heart to see their sad eyes when I am too sore, tired, or cold to take any more out, and someone is still waiting for their turn.

 
So.... please, if there is ANYONE 16 or older out there that likes to walk and can come during the mornings (once you are familiar with the routine), daytime (during public hours), or evenings on Tuesdays (6:30-8 pm), or Sundays (3:30-5 pm) please visit the shelter to fill out a volunteer form and get started. Check with staff to find out the rules, best places to walk, and which dogs can go together.
 
Bring your ice cleats or appropriate footwear for winter walks and a water bottle for summer and winter walks.
 

Thanks SO much to those of you who have given dog walking a try and to those who are only able to help out once in awhile. Even one extra walker can make a HUGE difference to us (and the dogs).

We are very fortunate to have a couple nice big yard at our shelter for the dogs to take breaks in, but the dogs still NEED to have walks and companionship to deal with stress effectively.

Closed to public on most holidays

 

Experienced dog walkers can still come in the mornings on days the shelter is closed, while staff members are present.
