This is on the corner behind Hill Crest Water accros the highway from the Wholesale Store. Time: 4.00-9.00pm. Coffee, tea, ice tea. Come down and take a look, visit and see the studio.
It is intended that this be an annual event. Too, if you are interested in taking classes it is a good opportunity to come and see the kind of work to which you will be introduced. Work is by novice and more experienced potters. There is a good variety.

A new champion. The North Peace Potters' Guild announces that the winner of the 2010 Chili Bowl Bash chili competition was the recipe submitted by Team Jessica Harrison. Jessica, on the right was acccompanied in kitchen by Valerie Martin, also seen. The winning recipe was turkey based and contains lots of fresh roasted vegetables.
Thank you to all our wonderful chefs. Tim n Tyk's were represented . They also generously lent the guild their kitchen for the event. Wonderful chilis, if not the winning recipe this time, were entries from Lori Ackerman (with Lisa Wildman), Melanie Chapple, Dillon Lazaroff and the defending champions from the 101.5, the Bear, (Christina and her team, including new baby).
Proceeds from the event go towards the upkeep of the pottery studio in the Artspost building. The studio is maintained by the membership. Classes are offered to the community, in 2 terms: September to December, and January to April.
More later, but for now a big thank you to all who supported the North Peace Potters' Guild 3rd Annual Chili Bowl Bash. Thank you to our great chefs and our 2010 winner, Jessica. Thank you to all our sponsors. Thank you to our guests who allowed us to sell out the event. Please stay tuned for a complete list of sponsors and winners. Our members should be commended for their output of more than 100 bowls. A special thank you to Tim and Tyks for the invaluable use of their kitchen for the event. It appears that a good time was had by all.
And of course the studio. The event is held to support its upkeep for community members and for classes. It is an expensive endeavour. The Guild is a proud member of the Community Arts Council in whose building the studio is located.

Spring is almost here (:)) and the Community Arts Council and the North Peace Potters' Guild are seeking artists who would like to paint the terracotta colour plant pots that you will see around the community during the summer.
The well received event depends on local artists to create one of a kind designs on the pots that are then planted and displayed. Each pot is sponsored by a local business or organization. About 50 new designs are contracted every year. After 2 years on display selected pots are offered for auction to the public. The whole event serves as a fundraiser for the Arts Council and local art organizations. It serves, as well, to highlight the vibrancy of art in our community and showcase local artists and their work. The deadline for completion of the work is March 6th.
Just a month to go.
The North Peace Potters' Guild is proud to be hosting Jim Etzkorn for a 2 day workshop on Feb26-28th. Take a look at the attached poster.
Jim is an experienced teacher and will address the workshop content to the levels of experience of teh participants.
Work shown on the poster is from a couple of years ago. Go to <www.etzkornpottery.com> for images of current work.
The workshop is assisted by a grant from the Community Arts Council.
For more information and a registration form please email Heather <scarab@xplornet.com>
Classes at the North Peace Potters' Guild resume this week. There is space available in the Wednesday morning workshop. Students, beginners and more experienced, work at their own pace. Intermediate students may determine their own projects. The Tuesday evening hand building class has one, possibly 2 spaces available. For those with the prerequisite experience there are spaces available in the wheel throwing class.
Please email <scarab@xplornet.com> if you are interested. A brochure is attached to this post.
The brochure for adult classes at the North Peace Potters' Guild is now available and attached to this group news item. If you are unable to download a big file it is available to view at the Artspost, 10320 94th Avenue. To save paper we are not printing bulk copies since it is 6-7 pages long.
For more information. <scarab@xplornet.com>
Work by members of the North Peace Potters' Guild will be available at the Dr Kearney Craft Sale on Saturday, November 14th.
The North Peace Potters' Guild is requesting donations of angle iron for the construction shelving at the studio. 4 feet/120cm long minimum please. Similar steel or iron left over at building sites would be gratefully accepted. Anyone have old bedsteads that you would like to get rid of? The ones that are constructed of angle iron. This works fine. We can pick up in town. Maybe out of town as well depending on the location.
There is space available in the Wednesday morning class at the North Peace Potters' Guild. Class is from 9am-noon and can accommodate students beginner through intermediate levels. The workshop format allows you to work at your ownpace with the instructor, and once you have learned the basics you are free to come with ideas for projects. Beginners start with hand building and will take home a number of completed projects.
Unusually, there have been insufficient registrations to start the class this term. A busy city and people are working in the daytime? A ten week format, instead of the usual 12 will start on 30th September if there are 4 more registrations. Final date for registration is 25th of September, Friday.
email <scarab@xplornet.com> for a brochure.

Thank you to all the chili contest participants. You all really did us proud.
Edith, Shannon, Suzi, Kim and the winners, this year, of our tiny trophy: Christina and her helpers, Cathy and Marcel, from Energy FM, The BEAR.
Here is a picture of the winners.
Here are some very bright bowls. The clay is a medium fire porcelain used in an unusual way. Natalie Nyffeler has been experimenting. Come and see them at the Chili Bowl Bash

And here is another experimental glaze
The Potters' Guild thought it would be a nice touch to have a trophy for the chili competition at the Chili Bowl Bash. For next year it will be mounted on a plinth to enable winners names to be attached.
Moose fm was the winner last year. Whose name will be added this year?
The small ceramic box is adorned with 2 chili cartoon characters. We hope this tiny trophy will instigate intense competition and become a valuable asset to the fund raiser.
Here are some pictures of bowls for the Chili Bowl Bash.
Louise Framst has donated hand built bowls, mostly made without the use of a potter's wheel. Ronda Lee uses colourful glaze treatments. Deanna Roberts is a new member, having completed 2 beginner courses. Shannon Butler has donated bowls from her "Kilnhouse" studio. Here is one of her heart bowls.

100 tickets. Please buy your tickets in advance. June 19th. Almost the longest day of the year. Come celebrate the summer solstice with us.
$25.00. Chili, the bowl to take home, silent auction, 50/50 draw, piniata, a good time and you will be supporting expanding community programming and the maintenance of the studio that makes it all possible.
Attached is a picture of the first bowls ready for the Potters' Guild Summer Solstice Chili Bowl Bash.
Heather Hannaford made these bowls. Heather has been making pots, on and off, for several years. She is an insructor at the Guild. Consider joining the guild for an evening of some excellent chili, conversation, music and enjoyment. A $25.00 ticket will buy your dinner and the bowl to take home. A silent auction is part of the evening as well. This is our second year and a major fund raiser for the guild. Tickets are available at the Artspost, 10320 94th Avenue, or from Shannon Butler's Kilnhouse studio and shop on 101st Avenue, opposite Moose FM.
Check out the attached poster for the Potters' Guilld major fund raising event. The pics are of bowls from last year. Check back for this year's and for those of silent auction items.Come and bring your friends.
There is still room for entries in the chili competition. The Guild will provide the ingredients. You provide the recipe and commit to cooking it at our designated kitchen on the Friday afternoon. 6 entries in total accepted.
With the unseasonable snow on the ground it seems like a great time to be talking about chili ☺
The North Peace Potters’ Guild is inviting entries for its second annual Chili Bowl Bash. The first 6 chili recipe entries will be accepted for competition to be held on, almost the longest and, we hope, the hottest evening of the year, June 19th.
What happens is this. Members of the Potters’ Guild hand make pottery chili bowls for the event. A $25.00 ticket will buy dinner (chili (from the competition), buns, beverage and dessert) a bowl of your choice in which the chili is served, and which you will take home when you leave at the end of the evening. Lots of fun was had last year. Proceeds from the event helped with the major cost of setting up the studio.
The Guild will supply meat and a dollar amount to cover the cost of other ingredients for the chili entries. Food safety regulations require that the chili be made in a designated commercial kitchen. Someone must be available to prepare the chili on June 19th. Please keep this in mind if you would like to submit an entry.
A member of the Fort St. John Arts Council the Potters’ Guild, as a fund raising endeavour, has been awarded a part of the contract to assist with the preparation of painted flower pots: the City of Fort St. John’s “Flower Pot Project”.
