A Fort St. John child is lucky to be alive after floating down the Peace River Sunday morning.

Three year old Demetrius Jones was camping with his family at Peace Island Park when sometime Sunday morning he got up and left his family camper.

That is Constable Nardi, he went on to say that shortly before 10am the child was found alive.

Don Lowen, who was in the area, helped with the search and found Demetrius and explains what he saw.

Sunday marked Demetrius’ 3rd birthday and the family continued to celebrate the extra special day at Peace Island Park. The RCMP would like to remind parents about the dangers posed by moving water and to be vigilant around children playing in or near the water.

Parenting

We had a car like the boys truck. It was a VW Rabbit with a battery which had to be removed and charged in the home. The toy had a power switch and no key. Our toy came with age specific instructions and safety recomendations. The car was never taken out of the back yard. Every night my mom or dad would remove the battery to recharge it. The battery was also removed when parents were not available for supervision. Parents are responsible for safety of children. Is it possible to be shocked when putting the battery in water? Lucky this ended well, but is it not a time to rethink and plan visits to Peace Island Park. It is not even a year when a quad accident involving alcohol claimed the lives of a 16 year old and a 20 year old. One can't help wondering about the use of a toy like this in the front yard traffic. The responsibility belongs to parents and family, a lesson for families.

Everyone involved in the

Everyone involved in the little boy's life are very lucky this all ended well, and Im so thankful that the little boy is safe now. When I heard about this, the first thing I thought was " I hope that little boy is ok.." I didn't think about where the parents were. I have a 4 year old boy as well.. and I have to watch him like a Hawk.. because he wants to give everything a try at least once.... even if its ending up with a fat lip or broken arm... Every single day, if he falls down and scraps his knee, do I blame myself because I wasn't there watching him .. making sure he picked up his feet? NO ... I don't. He is a child.. I love him more then the world it self.. and he will go along life making tons of mistakes, and people probably think, omg.. who's are his parents? BUT I will be there for him every step.... through thick and thin, In the end.... I know I've done my best .... and thats all that matters We can all sit here and blame the parents and say that the parenting should be better this and that.. BUT seriously, Who are we to judge? Who in this world today, are PERFECT Parents? NO ONE is perfect.............. Do you know the parents of this child? They could be the best parents in the world.....but if anyone knows ANYTHING about parenting, its that kids, are kids. They like to explore, with or without their parents. Remember, this little boy is only 3 years old!!!! This little boy woke up, before his parents, desided he wwanted to take his toy truck for a ride and did so....... did he realize he was going to be floating down the river within minutes of jumping on his toy truck? NO, probably not. He had ONE thing on his mind and that was FUN! .. NO ONE plans for this kinda accident to happen...... and NO ONE wants to happen to anyone... NOW lets STOP BLAMEING the Parents and focus what is important in this situation... The 3-year old boy is HOME safe with his family... thats ALL that matters.
