Shelter is FULL. Come walk, adopt, or cuddle!- Hours changed

If you have a little time to spare, why not come to the North Peace SPCA and take some dogs out for a much needed walk or give a cat a cuddle? Our shelter is VERY full at the moment, and the animals can use all the attention they can get during the cold snaps.

The animals at the shelter are in kennels for long periods of time, and look forward to a walk or cuddles with volunteers.

If you can help, please drop by the shelter during our public hours to fill out a volunteer waiver form and take a dog for a walk. While we do have a number of people that have signed up as volunteers, very few are regulars at the shelter. Sometimes people sign up and only walk once or twice. Our dogs need consistency and we'd love to have the help.

Walkers and volunteers are welcome to come during the public or designated hours, but must fill out a volunteer waiver form before working with any animals. Children under 16 cannot volunteer without direct supervision from a parent or guardian.

Our NEW hours (as of January 29th):

Sunday AND Monday CLOSED except for Sunday afternnoon dog walking 3:30-5:00 pm

Cats at the SPCA as of January 29th, 2009

We often have a full house when it comes to cats and kittens. If you are missing one (or would like to adopt one), please check the shelter frequently, as this list is not always up to date. Do not hold the shelter responsible for mistakes or outdated information. I am a volunteer and do this as a community service to help our pets find owners or new homes. Please call us at 250-785-SPCA for further information.

Cats are named when they come to our shelter (unless they came in with a name).... and will be spayed or neutered before they leave.  Please see shelter staff for current adoption fees and what is included.

Dogs at the North Peace SPCA as of January 29th, 2009

Scroll down to see more dogs!

The most current dogs will be posted at the top. This list may not be complete or up to date at all times. Visit us!

Please check with the shelter to see the most current pets.

Please do not hold the shelter responsible for mistakes on here. I am a volunteer doing this as a service to the community and as a way to decrease the amount of pets that have to stay at the shelter. For some reason, people don't always think to call us when a pet goes missing!

Not all pets listed here are available for adoption just yet. This page is also a way to help owners find their pets, but if you are interested in a pet, certainly come to the shelter to find out more and meet them personally.

Lost and Found- updates needed!

PLEASE check out the pages that list our pets that are currently at the SPCA, too. You may see yours!

Please remember to email me with updates if your lost or found pet has been reunitied, or is still missing after a few months and you'd still like it posted.

I had to restructure this page, and haven't put every lost pet back on here as some were old posts. If you would still like yours listed, please email me at wheatamix@gmail.com.

I've phoned the numbers listed for updates on most pets posted here (if the ad is older than a few weeks). If I missed your return call, or your pet is still posted and shouldn't be, please email me or call back again to remove or keep your pet on the site. Ask to speak to Wendy, please! (Messages don't always get delivered).

Missing dogs, since Oct 23/08

Still missing as of August 25th, 2009

LEASHES and COLLARS desperately needed.

Here's the latest on our list of needs at the shelter:

Collars and leashes (preferably nylon, but we'll take any)

Wet cat and dog food- any kind

And... check out the rest of our ongoing needs below.

Many of our dog walking supplies seem to "walk away" on their own at some point, so we are ALWAYS in need. If you plan to come dog walking this weekend and have your own leash that you could bring, please make sure it is clearly marked with your name.

Once again, I'm putting out a plea for help for our animals.

If you can spare a little time, please come down, fill out a volunteer form, and give a dog (or a few) a quick walk (at least 10 minutes). The best time to come is during the public hours, but check with staff for other times. Now that the weather is warmer, the dogs are feeling a bit more restless and any help is wonderful.

Starting April 5th... SUNDAY dog walking added.!

NEW: We are going to try out Sunday afternoon dog walking from 3:30 to 5:00 pm. Read below for more details about dog walking.

SPCA Paws for a Cause Pics Part 1

Since I took over 150 photos, I will post (part of) them on a couple separate pages to make it easier for me to organize. If you wish to leave a comment, please email me at wheatamix@gmail.com with "dog jog photo comment" in the subject line so I don't delete it. I may post a few of the comments later, if I hear from you. If anyone took any pictures (that you don't mind sharing here) during the actual walk, please send them to me as well. I had to stay behind this time :-(

Anyone remember Nanook? He made the news awhile back because of his trip down a manhole. He was stuck at the bottom for a couple weeks before anyone could find him. We're so happy that he lived to "tell" his "tail" and be with us at the dog jog. What a beautiful dog he is.

2008 Paws for a Cause Dog Jog news

We recently finished our Annual "Paws for a Cause" walk for the Animals on September 13th, 2008 at Centennial Park. What a beautiful day it was for our event. A little windy to start, but it turned out to be a great day.
