The Cowichan 2008 Spirit Pole was on display yesterday in Taylor, as part of the Spirit of the Peace Powwow. The pole is a twenty foot western red-cedar log, being carved tocommemorate the North American Indigenous Games scheduled for VancouverIsland this August. The pole is about half way through its 13 week journey across theprovince, offering the public a 50 stop hands-on carving opportunity. There will be another public carving opportunity at Fort St. John’s Centennial Park, from 11am to 3pm tomorrow. The finished product will be back in Cowichan in time for theopening ceremonies of the games, and will remain a permanent fixture inthat community.
