Foot Identified

One fifth of the mystery of the missing feet has been solved.

The RCMP have linked one of the feet washed up in the Straight of Georgia in the last year to a BC man. Sergeant Pierre Lemaitre says the family has been notified and have requested the man’s name be withheld until Monday.

Lemaitre says investigators have also managed to dismiss other leads in the case.

"We were able to notify the family on Vancouver Island who lost some family members in a plane crash on Quadra Island – or near Quadra Island – they were told their DNA did not match the feet that we have in our possession."

Lemaitre adds none of the four remaining feet match a commercial fisherman who went missing after falling overboard. The first foot washed up on Jedidiah Island in August of last year. Since then four more feet – all encased in shoes – have been found. The last was spotted in June on Westham Island at the mouth of the Fraser River.
