Accoring to CMHC Housing starts in BC are down in June compared to last June.

Housing starts for all of British Columbia totaled 2,630 last month, down 10.8 percent from June of 2007. According to CMHC construction of new homes is at a record level, despite the drop in Junes housing starts.

Fewer foundations were poured of both single-detached and multiple-unit homes in the second quarter. High land and building costs are two of the factors contributing to the downtrend in home starts.
