PG Drug Treatment Centre Shuts Doors

The CBC is reporting that the only residential drug treatment program in Northern B.C. has had to shut its doors. The facility, which houses a 10 bed, 30 treatment program, shut down at the beginning of July with no prior warning.

Northern Health is quoted as saying the closure is unfortunate, but unavoidable due to staffing shortages. NH adds there is a non-residential unit in Prince George, as well as the Nechako Youth Treatment program.

There are also Aboriginal treatment programs in Kitimat and Williams Lake, and the option of sending any resident in desperate need of treatment outside the region.

Northern Health is planning on reopening the facility in the fall, though no firm date has been set.
