On Friday the Canadian Paralympic Team officially announced who will be attending the 2008 Paralympics in China.

One of those named will be Fort St. John resident Laura Jensen. Laura will compete in several swimming events at the upcoming games, which are scheduled for September 6th to 17th.

Growing up in Fort St. John, Jensen made the move to Vancouver in the fall of 2007 to follow long-time coach Chad Webb when he accepted a position with the CHENA swim team.

At the 2007 Para Pan American Games Laura won a gold medal in the womens 4 x 100 Free relay, a silver medal in the 100 m Free and two bronze medals in the 50 m and 400 m Free. This will be Jensen’s first Paralympic Games.

Good Luck to Laura and we’ll of course have full coverage of her trip to the Paralympics this September.

Here is more on Laura from her official Bio with the Canadian Paralympic Team:

Laura Jensen gives 110% throughout an entire practice, and in Beijng she plans to swim personal
best times in all of her events while representing Canada.
She holds the S7 Canadian record in the 200m backstroke with a time of 3:19.27. At the 2006
IPC Swimming World Championships, she was on Canada’s 400m freestyle relay team that
placed second.
She started swimming lessons at a young age. She was introduced to competitive swimming by
Janet Dunn, a founding member of the Alberta Cerebral Palsy Sports Association and the
Canadian Cerebral Palsy Sports Association.
Her personal motto is: "Live life to the fullest. Everything happens for a reason."
If she could dine with anyone, alive or deceased, she would choose actor John Wayne, whom
she considers an honourable man.
