The search continues for Clayton Russ on Pine River

The search is still on for Clayton Russ, who went missing while swimming on the Pine River.

About 26 people from the RCMP, including a Police Dog, Tumbler Ridge Search and Resuce and North Peace Search and Rescue are involved in the search. The search is focused on the area where the Pine River and the Peace River meet. From there the search stretches down the Peace River to the Clayhurst Bridge. In total the search area is roughly 20 miles.

Constable Passarell with the Fort St. John RCMP says they are asking local boaters to stay away from the search area.

The use of a helicoper has been called off because they cannot see through the muddy river. At the moment North Peace Search and Rescue says this is still a search for a missing person. Search and Rescue is also not prepared to call off the search at the moment.

Clayton and 2 friends were swimming at around 2pm Friday afternoon, when Clayton was suddenly swept under by the strong currents of the Pine River. They were swimming in an area about 3 to 4 km from where the Pine and the Peace River Meet. The RCMP have confirmed that Clayton was not a strong swimmer.

The RCMP Dive team has been called in and will be arriving shortly and will help the search. The Search will continue today until around 9pm and if the RCMP and North Peace Search and Rescue call for it the search will start tomorrow again at 6:30am.

Clayton was last seen wearing long red shorts. Police do not believe that alcohol was a contributing factor in this disappearance.
