North Peace Search and Rescue have resumed a search for a missing swimmer.

At approximately 2pm Friday the Fort St. John RCMP responded to a report of a distressed swimmer in the Pine River. The male swimmer was unable to reach the shore before he was pulled away by the rivers current. He and a few friends were enjoying a day on the river just up from where the Pine and the Peace River meet.

Search and Rescue Teams were assembled and search parties were set up on the river in boats, walking on foot along the shores and flying above by helicopter.

The Search was called off at about 10pm Friday because the lack of daylight. The Fort St. John RCMP, Taylor Fire Department, North Peace Search and Rescue, BC Ambulance Services and Victim Services have all been pouring resources into the investigation.

At this time the RCMP have not released the indentity of the male to ensure all family is notified of the incident.
