We now have a few more details concerning the expansion of a support program for immigrant families in Fort St. John, through the Peace River North School District.

As reported earlier, the district has received an as yet undisclosed amount of provincial funding for the pilot program called "Settlement Workers In Schools."

SWIS has been in existence for two years in the lower mainland, but District 60 program is one of only two, the other in Prince George, in the northern part of the province.

Local settlement workers will be going to Vancouver later this month to meet with other program workers and learn more about how the program works in other school districts.
