Fort St. John residents hoping to gas up on the way home from work may be in for an unfortunate surprise: gas prices have risen almost 13 cents at some stations around town since last night.

At last check, the highest price in town was $1.579. Yesterday’s reported average gas price in Fort St. John was $1.358. The jump comes only one day after a Peace River Regional District meeting which saw board members move to draw up a letter requesting that the federal and federal governments intervene to bring fuel prices down.

Hudson’s Hope City Councillor Sam Kosolowsky, who made the motion, says he feels gasoline prices should reflect the price of oil.

The jump reflects a nationwide increase, which is thought to be a preemptive measure against damage that may be caused by Hurricane Ike.
