Very little information is available at this time as to why the Chetwynd NLC Campus was evacuated Thursday.

A press release from Northern Lights College Friday says at 9am September 11, staff members received information regarding a person who was attending classes.

The information suggested that the person might pose a risk due to items believed to be in the person’s possession.

After receiving the information, staff members proceeded to summon emergency assistance, as well as clearing the campus building by activating the fire alarm.

In an attempt to ensure a calm exit from the building, staff members treated the situation as a routine fire drill. All occupants of the campus building were evacuated to an adjacent parking lot.

Chetwynd RCMP attended and removed one person from the campus. At this time the RCMP have not released any information about this incident.

In the aftermath, staff members from NLC’s Regional Administration office have attended at the Chetwynd Campus to provide post-crisis support and assistance.

NLC is praising it’s staff for their quick action helped avert a potentially serious situation on Sept. 11.
