UBCM asks for changes to carbon tax

Municipalities in BC will now work to lobby the Provincial Government to adjust its Carbon Tax policies. This morning at the Union of BC Municipalities conference in Penticton, a resolution was passed to ask the provincial government to "mitigate impacts and create incentives for local governments and residents to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions." During the one and a half hour debate that preceded a vote on the resolution, Peace River Regional District chair Karen Goodings made a friendly amendment to the motion, asking that the province also mitigate carbon tax in those areas who have no transportation choices. Councillor Lori Ackerman is attending the UBCM conference. She says transportation options in the north, especially for seniors and the disabled, are severely limited.
