To all 2008/2009 Indoor players and parents, and all Outdoor 2008 players and parents:
The Executive Board of the Fort St. John Soccer Club is fully prepared to cancel the upcoming indoor season, AND ALL SUBSEQUENT SEASONS (including Outdoor 2009) until such time as all executive positions are filled. We cannot offer a good quality program to the youth and adults of our community with a partial Board of Directors. The current executive are all volunteers, who sacrifice their time for the sake of soccer. They cannot do double duty. These positions need to be filled by the end of Orientation Day, October 18th, or the season will be shut down.
1) The current vacant positions are: Referee in Chief, Referee Coordinator and Head Coach (although our Vice President has offered to give up his position and fill the Head Coach position if need be – in which case our Vice President position would be vacant). Please check out the job descriptions at the end of this e-mail message for more details on the duties.
2) We are in desperate need of referees. We provide the training, as well as excellent wages for all games officiated. Everyone born in 1996 and earlier, including parents, are welcome to be trained. Please contact the club if you are interested.
3) Several teams for the upcoming indoor season are in need of coaches. If you are interested, but are concerned about not being at every game, we can pair you up with someone in a similar situation. We will provide you with training and a binder full of ideas and tips on coaching. You don’t even have to know that much about soccer!! And again, any given division without a full slate of coaches will be cancelled for the season if the coaching positions are not filled by the end of Orientation. 4) We want to remind you that next Saturday, October 18th, is Orientation and Picture Day at Bert Bowes Junior Secondary School (across from Home Hardware). Please remember to bring your $50.00 jersey deposit cheque (post-dated for February 28, 2009) in order to receive your jersey for the season. You will meet your team and get your schedule for the season. The schedule for Orientation is:
U6 Mixed 10 – 11 am
U8 B, G 11 – 12 noon
U10 B, G noon – 1 pm
U12 B 2 – 2:45 pm
U12/14 G 2:45 – 3:30 pm
U14 B 2:45 – 3:30 pm
U16/18 Mixed 3:30 – 4:15 pm
We are hoping that you, as parents and players, care as much about soccer as we do, and would be willing to step up to volunteer your time and talents so that soccer can move ahead. (Did you know that there are more participants in soccer than in any other sport in Fort St. John, including hockey?!)

-Shall be responsible for being the liaison between the board and club volunteer coaches
-Shall report to the board of directors
-Shall assist, train, and guide club volunteer coaches
-Shall purchase educational material, under board approval, on behalf of the club, for players and coaches
-Shall be responsible for the designing and implementation of a rating and ranking system for both players and coaches
-Shall be responsible for the rating and ranking of players and coaches within the club
-Shall be responsible for the assigning of coaches to various teams within the club
-Shall coordinate team sorting
-Work with the Equipment Director in the deciding of how many teams and how many players per team
-Oversee Competitive and Development Programs
-Ensure that all coaches have their Criminal Record checks completed and turned into the Club.
*Pre-season: to assign coaches to the various club teams; assist coaches with player trading
*During season: to support, educate, and guide club coaches; to be a carrier of issues presented by coaches for the board
Referee in Chief
-Shall present to the club for approval budgets for referee fees
-Shall present to the club for approval equipment fees
-Shall maintain a permanent record of all club referees and shall report to the board, as necessary
-Shall be responsible for the registration of all referees and related insurance
-Shall be responsible for ensuring club is current with FIFA rules and regulations
*Pre-season: to develop the level of competencies of our referees; equipment purchases
*During: to schedule and coordinate all refereeing activities
-Work with Chief Referee in the scheduling of Referees for league divisions
-Collect hours and information from Referees for payment purposes
-Work with Scheduler pre-season and during tournament to ensure appropriate Referees can be at the necessary divisions.
-Help Referee in Chief by keeping in touch with Refs, being available for their concerns or questions.
