The Royal Canadian Mounted Police is issuing the following public information and warning in regard to a High Risk Sex Offender, in the interest of public safety.

Lee Todd LAVIOLETTE, age 40, is currently wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to report to a Probation Officer as directed by Fort McMurray Provincial Court. He is currently charged under Section 810.2 of the Criminal Code of Canada and subject to the following condition on judicial interim release:

Abstain absolutely from the possession or consumption of any alcohol or non-prescription drugs.

Lee LAVIOLETTE has a documented history of sexually abusing adult females in the Province of Alberta and in the Northwest Territories. This individual presents a significant risk to sexually offend against adult females and poses a general risk to violently offend in the community, particularly if he is intoxicated.

LAVIOLETTE is described as:

– 40 year old aboriginal male,

– 170 cm (5’7"),

– 57 kg (130 lbs),


– Black hair


LAVIOLETTE is currently at large and his whereabouts are unknown. It is believed that he departed Fort McMurray on October 3, 2008 by bus to an unknown destination. LAVIOLETTE has previously resided in Fort McMurray, Fort Chipewyan, Edmonton and Yellowknife. He has also spent time in Saskatchewan.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police is issuing this information and warning after careful deliberation and consideration of all related issues, including privacy concerns, in the belief that it is clearly in the public interest to inform the members of the community of Lee Todd LAVIOLETTE and in consideration of the outstanding warrant for his arrest. The RCMP believe that there is a significant risk to the health or safety of the public, and in particular, adult females.

Members of the public are advised that the intent of this process is to enable members of the public to take suitable precautionary measures and not to embark on any form of vigilante action.

Anyone seeing Lee LAVIOLETTE or knowing of his whereabouts is encouraged not to attempt to approach him. Please contact the police service of jurisdiction, or where possible call 911 or Crime Stoppers, toll free, at 1 – 800 – 222 – 8477 (TIPS).
