Chetwynd pulp mill to face temporary shutdown

Employees at the Tembec pulp mill in Chetwynd have been informed that the mill will face a temporary shutdown later this month.

The company announced that it will be taking the mill offline October 19th and resume operations October 27th. The shutdown, combined with the temporary shutdowns of two other Tembec mills in Quebec, will result in approximately 35,000 tonnes being taken off the market.

Executive Vice President of Temec Yvon Pelletier cites lower demand for pulp products in Asia as the reason for the shutdown. He also says the company will use the shutdown period to complete some maintenance work on mill equipment.
