Friday afternoon power outage hits 1224 homes

A Friday afternoon power outage is affecting more than 1200 customers East of Fort St. John.

Hydro lists affected areas as north of Johnstone Road and east of Old Fort Loop.

Bob Gammer, Community Relations Manager for BC hydro, says the outage is affecting an entire power circuit, including the Airport and the Baldonnel area.

He says it power will likely be out for at least a few hours, meaning it won’t be restored until 3:30pm Friday at the earliest.

Hydro is not saying what is causing the outage, though a safe bet may be the windstorm hitting the area.

The local forecast is for the windy conditions to continue overnight and through Saturday, so you are advised to have a stock of emergency supplies ready.
