43 year old Dawson Creek Mayor, Calvin Kruk, passed away early yesterday morning, while undergoing hospital treatment for lung cancer.

Calvin had been hopeful of a full recovery, noting he was lucky the cancer had been found, during his recent treatement for pneumonia.

Born and raised in Maple Ridge he moved to Dawson Creek in 1990 and, he was elected mayor of the city in the 2005 civic election, following two terms on city council.

He had recently pulled out of this fall’s mayoralty race opting instead to again seek a seat on council, allowing him more time to focus on his health.
