The Huskies eeked out another win over Beaverlodge on Friday night.
The Huskies got a boost heading into the game, with Jordan Shipton signing on to rejoin the team earlier in the week. He joined youngesters Cole Norris and Steven Fast on the second line, who got their chance on the powerplay early on. Quickly, Norris and Fast began working the puck between them in the right corner, Norris fed the puck across the crease of Chance Tomke to Shipton, who made a pretty finish to put the Huskies in front.
The Blades got back into it halfway through the period, when Charles Loubacan threw the puck from the side of the net, and it went under and off Huskies starter Andrew Van der Merwe to tie the game at one.
But before the end of the first, with Jason Arnouse in front, a Paydon Wongstedt point shot appeared to go in cleanly, and the huskies had their second powerplay goal of the game.
Later in the period, with Beaverlodge on the powerplay, a weak Luke McInerney shot found its way through Tomke, for a short handed goal that put the Huskies up by 2.
Early in the second, with a delayed penalty coming to Dylan Moulds, Wongstedt took exception to a Charles Loubacan cheapshot, and ran at him. Loubacan would have none of the fight, which meant Wongstedt got the gate, and after 2 minutes of 4 on 4, the Blades would get a 3 minute powerplay.
They were unable to capitalize on the opportunity, but another Charles Loubacan goal later on in the second made it 3-2 Huskies.
In the third, with a loose puck in front of the Beaverlodge net, Steven Fast took a bang, and Cole Norris made good on the second, to put the Huskies up 4-2.
With 4 minutes remaining in the third, Ryier Hommy scored a nice one-handed deflection, to make it a close game, but that would be the closest Beaverlodge would come, and the Huskies held on for a 4-3 win.
Zach Blain is expected to get the start in goal tonight, when the Huskies visit the Whitecourt Wolverines. Catch the game live on Moose FM, with the pregame starting at 6:45 Fort St. John time.
