Highway 63 to Fort MacMurray is now clear after a fatal accident yesterday afternoon rendered that road single lane traffic only until late last night.
The accident occurred at 3:30pm yesterday when a 23-year-old woman driving a Hyundai Accent collided with a Ford Taurus in the opposing lane as she attempted to pass several vehicles at a high rate of speed. The woman, who was from the Edmonton area, died at the scene. The occupants of the Ford Taurus, a 23-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman both from Red Deer, were seriously injured in the collision and were taken to Fort MacMurray Hospital. There is no word on their condition at this time.
The accident site is near the 152km mark south of Fort MacMurray.
