Northern Health announces small surplus

Northern Health says its budget for the first quarter of the 2008-2009 fiscal year is balanced.

At a board meeting in Dawson Creek last week, the health authority received financial statements that indicate Northern Health ended their first quarter with a surplus of nearly $270 thousand dollars. However, the authority calls the surplus “very small” when contrasted with the authority’s overall annual budget of $589 million.

Chair of Northern Health Charles Jago says the authority expects to remain close to the break-even point throughout the fiscal year, but he expects that the winter will bring increased costs due to higher acute care and increased energuy usage through the cold months.
