4 men to be sentenced next Fri for D.C. drug killing

4 men who have plead guilty to manslaughter in connection with the death of a Dawson Creek man have had their sentencing put off until next week.

The Prince George Citizen reports Justice Eric Chamberlist reserved his decision today, in the cases of all four men, and is expected to deliver the sentences on Friday the 28th.
In the article, the Citizen quotes lawyers for the accused as saying thier clients didn’t mean to kill Thomas Willcocks, but rather the death was a “beating gone bad”.
Willcocks was killed in a dispute over drugs at at Dawson Creek hotel room.
His remains were found in a burned out van in Dawson, after his death on the second of December, 2006.
It’s the disposal of the body which has drawn a lot of attention in this case, with defence lawyer Don Kennedy referring to the burning and dismembering of the body as “egregious, post-offence conduct”, but saying his client still shouldn’t serve more than 4 to 6 years for the killing.
The crown is seeking sentences of 8 to 12 years for each of the accused.
