The Union representing workers at the Alaska Highway News has confirmed it has served the company operating the paper with 72 hour strike notice. CEP local 2000, which has been involved in collective bargaining with Glacier Ventures, says the strike notice was served this morning at 8:00, meaning the two sides now have until 8:00 on Friday morning to resolve the bargaining impasse. A representative for the union declined to give any more information, out of concern for hurting the continuing negotiations. Our call to a representative for Glacier Ventures has not been returned. The contract for the workers expired at the end of April, and workers voted in favour of a strike on September 4th. The company’s assets include the Prince George Citizen, the Northerner, the Dawson Creek Daily News, the Northern Horizon, the Mirror as well as the Alaska Highway News.
