3 people remain in critical condition following a Greyhound Bus roll over near Prophet River, BC.

The bus left Fort Nelson Saturday morning at about 4:30am and crashed at about 5:30am. In total 23 people, including the driver, where on board the bus when it crashed. Abby Waumbaugh is a spokes person for Greyhound.

The accident appears to have been caused by icy road conditions on the Alaska Highway near Prophet River. At one point a passenger was trapped in the bus while emergency crews made the 100km drive from Fort Nelson to attend the scene. While waiting for emergency crews drivers passing by stopped and offered assistance to those involved in the crash.

The Fort Nelson Fire Department was successful in extracting the trapped passenger and this person was transported to the Fort Nelson Hospital by helicopter along with 2 other critically injured passengers. The latest information suggest that all the passengers will recover from their injuries.

Through preliminary investigation, it appears that the bus began to slide on the slippery road and fell onto it’s side off the shoulder of the road. The bus did not completely rollover.

Greyhound Bus Lines dispatched another bus to attend the collision site to transport the remaining passengers back to Fort Nelson to an awaiting Red Cross facility that has been set up at the hospital. All passengers will be checked out by medical personnel.

Greyhound has also taken passengers to Lakeview Inns and Suites in Fort Nelson while the await the arrival of the new bus. If you believe you had a family member on this bus you can contact the family information line that Greyhound has set up at 403-260-4677.
