Big weekend ahead for Flyers

The Fort St. John Flyers turn up the heat on the 08/09 season this weekend, with three key games.

The first, Thursday night in Grande Prairie, will give the Flyers an opportunity to avenge an opening night loss on home ice, and establish their place atop the NPHL.

This weekend, the games will mean nothing in terms of standings, but will be a key test for the Flyers and their 2009 Allan Cup ambitions. The Flyers will be in Stony Plain, to take on the Eagles. The Eagles are currently 5-0 in the Chinook Hockey League, (tied for top spot with the Bentley Generals) and are considered serious contenders for a spot in the MacKenzie cup this spring. That would mean the Flyers would play the Eagles for the right to play in this year’s Allan Cup.

And so, this weekend’s series is an important test for the Flyers, to see how they fare against Senior AAA opposition. On the upside, coach Adam Brash says he expects both Ryan Carter and Chad Vizzutti to join the team in Stony Plain, and says he will likely give one of the two starts in goal to Vizzutti.

You can catch all three of these games live on Moose FM. Thursday night in Grande Prairie, the game starts at 8:30. Saturday night in Stony Plain, the start time is 7:30pm, while on Sunday the puck drops at 1pm. Note, all times are now the same in BC and Alberta, and the pre-game shows start 15 minutes before the puck drops.
