Calgary-based Encana Corporation confirmed this morning that the natural gas leak at the site of the third suspected eco-terrorist bombing in the South Peace was sealed at about 8:30 last night.
In a news release from its Calgary office it also confirmed police reports the leak was discovered by a field worker shortly after noon on October 31st. The explosion occurred at a wellhead located 12 kilometres Northwest of Tomslake or about 14 south of Dawson Creek.
RCMP Sergeant Tim Shields put the time of the explosion at around midnight last Thursday, but he says there were frustrating delays in the public reports of the blast to police. [asset|aid=553|format=mp3player|formatter=asset_bonus|title=075401a265f97ce752dcca235c07321a-Tim Shields_2_Pub.mp3]
It is now generally believed the person or persons responsible for the bombings are from this area and/or have an extensive knowledge of the local oil and gas industry. Once again, security patrols have been increased in the area and the public is again reminded police are taking calls at the toll free tip line: 1-866-7473 or at the CrimeStoppers line:1-800-222-8477.
