The ribbon was cut today on the Fort St. John Hospital’s new Rehab department. The 242 thousand dollar renovation was made possible by money raised through the ‘Back to Living’ campaign, which began last year. At today’s opening, staff told stories about individual donors who had been touched by the efforts of local health care providers, and had given generously to the project. As well, Encana, Canadian Natural Resources, and the Suncor Energy Foundation made larger corporate donations, making up 54 per cent of the 242 thousand dollar total. Staff also told guests about how crowded the previous rehab department had been. The new space is 3 times larger, which means more patients can receive treatment, and more equipment can be housed. As well, there is now a dedicated waiting area, so patients can have more privacy and confidentiality. Kathy Peters, Interim Director of Patient Care, says the new department will also health care workers a more wholistic approach to their patient care.
