Pimms Production Atom Flyers play in first Tournament


Game 1 – Saturday Nov.15 – 10:00 am.
The Pimms Production Atom Flyers (9 year olds) played the host team Sexsmith Vipers in round robin play Saturday morning.  Jacob Lang opened the scoring for the Flyers at 15:45 of the first, assisted by linemate Thomas Pope.  Sexsmith tied it up 2 minutes later before Flyer’s defenseman Austin Crossley put the Flyers ahead to end the first period.  At !7:02 of the second, Trey Hipkiss scored FSJ’s third goal of the game assisted by Jacob Lang.  Adam Bowie added one more assisted by Tanner Sandberg to put the Flyer’s up 4 – 1 after two periods.  Aaron Kosinsky scored the Flyer’s fifth and final goal unassisted at 18:19 of the third.  Sexsmith battled back with 3 more of their own before time ran out on the game.  Final score Fort St. John Flyers 5 – Sexsmith 4.
Game 2 – Saturday Nov.15 – 5:00 pm.
Game 2 saw the Pimm’s Production Atom Flyers take on High Prairie Atoms on Saturday afternoon.  High Prairie commanded the first 40 minutes with 5 unanswered goals before the Flyers could respond.  Early in the third, FSJ’s Thomas Pope put the Flyers on the board assisted by Jacob Lang.  Less than a minute later Jacob Lang redirected a shot from linemate Aaron Kosinsky to bring the Flyer’s to within three.  The rally was not enough as High Prairie netted 2 more of their own for a final score of  7 – 2.  The win was High Prairie’s second of the day and gave them a by to the “A” final.
The Flyer’s would have to play Sexsmith again for the chance to play in the “A” final.
Game 3  – Sunday Nov.16 – 8:00 am.
The Pimms Production Atom Flyers met the host team Sexsmith Vipers in the semi-final with the winner advancing to the final against High Prairie.  Sexsmith  opened the scoring in the first minute of the game.  The Flyers tied it up 3 minutes later with a goal from Adam Bowie.  The game remained tied until 10 seconds left in the first when Jacob Lang put the Flyer’s up 2 – 1 assisted from Austin Crossley.  The second period remained unchanged as both teams displayed strong netminding.  Flyer’s goaltenders Jessie McArthur and Coleman McCaffrey shared the responsibilities between the pipes to keep Fort St. John in the game.  At 16:54 of the third, Jacob Lang scored his second of the game to give the Flyers a 2 goal lead.  Sexsmith came to within 1 at 13:38 of the third.  With just under 6 minutes remaining in regulation Jacob Lang earned his hattrick unassisted to seal the game for the Flyers.  Final score Fort St. John 4 – Sexsmith 2.
The win advanced the Flyer’s to the “A” final to face High Prairie, and ended the tournament for the host team Sexsmith Vipers.
Game 4 – Sunday Nov.16 – 11:25 am.
The Pimm’s Production Atom Flyers took on the High Prairie Atoms for the “A” final.  The fourth game in 2 days proved to be too much for the Atom Flyers 9 year olds as their tanks were running on empty.  The first period saw High Priairie score two unanswered goals.  Early in the second FSJ’s Teagan McMullen put the Flyers on the board assisted from linemate Trey Hipiss.  High Prairie responded with 4 more of their own to go into the dressing room after 40 minutes up 6 – 1.  High Prairie added three more in the third for a final score of 9 – 1 .  The Pimm’s Production Atom Flyer’s had to settle for second place in the “A” side of the tournament.
