Senior Flyers Weekend Wrap Up

The Senior flyers wrapped up the weekend their weekend with a 9-3 win over the Falher Pirates on Saturday night.
The win came on the heels of a 12-2 win over Peace River on Friday.  There was some bad news, as Matt Alexander suffered a shoulder injury on an innocent looking hit early in the game.  Chewy dislocated his shoulder, and will miss approx. 6 weeks.
The home wins improve the Flyers record to 4-1, and put the Flyers back amongst the league leaders (Spirit River currently sits atop the NPHL, at 7-0).
On Saturday, Matt Shuya led the way with 3 goals and 3 assists, while Todd Alexander added 2+2, and Dustin Kersey chipped in 2 more goals.  Shuya says the games a bit of a letdown after the AAA series last weekend, but the team remains focused on its goals.
Newcomer Ryan Bjorklund played both games in goal, improving his record to 3-0, with six goals allowed.  He faced 14 shots on Friday, and 6 on Saturday.  He says facing so little action is new to him.
After the game, coach Adam Brash said it was tough on the team returning to NPHL regular season ‘A’ hockey, after a great AAA series in Stony Plain last weekend.
But he says there are positives.
Matt Shuya will be leaving Fort St. John at the end of month, to spend a few months in the U.K.  But, he says he will be back for playoffs.
Next action for the Flyers is Thursday (Nov. 20) home to the new-era Hythe Mustangs.  Saturday the Flyers visit High Prairie.
