Denny Morrision finishes 3rd in 1,000

Shani Davis of the United States clocked a rink-record time today to win his second title in as many days at a World Cup speed skating meet.

Davis timed 1 minute, 08.92 seconds to win the men’s 1,000 metres, finishing .24 seconds ahead of South Korea’s Lee Kyou-hyuk. Canada’s Denny Morrison was third in 1:09.23.

Davis also won the men’s 1,000 on Saturday.

Lee won the men’s 500 with a time of 34.92, edging China’s Yu Fengtong who was second with a time of 34.95.  In the women’s 500, China’s Yu Jing took top honours with a time of 38.63, ahead of South Korean Lee Sang-hwa who was second in 38.72. China’s Xing Aihua finished third in 38.78.

Canada’s Christine Nesbitt won the women’s 1,000 in 1:16.38, beating China’s Yu Jing by .99 seconds. China’s Jin Peiyu was third in 1:17.60.
