Donate a toy and the City will forgive your parking tickets this holiday season

It’s Toys for fines time. Until the end of December, parking fines can be paid for with new, unwrapped toys.

At yesterday’s council meeting, mayor Bruce Lantz joked that the parking ticket exchange program was a “favorite” of his.

During the election Lantz came under fire for his more than $700 worth of unpaid parking tickets, which would be the equivalent of two XBox 360s and a copy of Guitar Hero 3, if he hadn’t already paid the fines off.

Toys must be unwrapped and be of equal or greater value to the fines. The items will be given to the Salvation Army for distribution to needy families.

In the past, this program has brought in between $1,500 and $2,000 in toy donations.
