The Province has poured another $132,000 in the School District 60.
The money will be used for a new program called Provinces Settlement Workers in School K-12 (SWIS) for 2008 and 2009.
The SWIS program supports immigrant students and their families by giving them the tools to transition smoothly into their new homes. This is accomplished by hiring settlement workers who help immigrants adjust to school culture and help parents get involved in their child’s education.
The SWIS worker also works within schools to increase cultural awareness and sensitivity.
School District 60 is one of 20 School Districts in the Province that will participate in the program.
