The walking trail system in Fort St. John could be expanded.

Council on Monday approved a report that will see city staff apply for another Local Motion Grant from the Province. This grant will allow the current trail system to be expanded from the North Bypass Road to 110ave along 100th street.

The cost of the project is approximately $990,000. The grant would cover up to 50% of the project cost and the remainder of the funds would come from the city. The city is planning for its portion to come from the Community Works grant or the program better known as the gas tax grant.

The project would also include a pedestrian controlled crossing to be installed across 100th street at the North Bypass Road.
