City introduces property tax calculator

The City is inviting Fort St. John residents to visit www.fortstjohn.ca and, make use of a new on-line interactive calculator for 2009 property tax estimates.

Provincial property tax assessments are being delivered this week and, once they’re received, tax estimates can be determined by simply entering the current assessment value of a business or residential property and selecting "Calculate."

The estimated breakdown will then be displayed, along with the "Grand Total." To check the tax class for your property, you can contact the City Finance Department, at 250-787-8150.

However, any questions regarding you current value assessment should be directed to the BC Assessment Authority, at 1-800-990-1160.

The city stresses the MPT calculator is an estimator only and, uses the 2008 tax rates established by City Council. Thus, new rates for this year, which may be established by Council during its budget deliberations, could lead to a change in results generated by the calculator.
