Council defeats latest idea to curb vandalism

Fort St. John City Council continues to debate just what should be done about vandalism in the city.

At Monday’s Council meeting members of council defeated the latest report from city staff. The report suggested the city hire a consultant who would look at antisocial behavoir in the community. The consultant would cost roughly $26,000 and would create a report with ideas to curb antisocial behavoir.

After debate the report was defeated in a 4-3 vote with Bruce Lantz leading the way. Bruce suggested a report done 10 years ago maybe a better option. The author of the report maybe available to help the city look at vandalism for a lower cost.

Councilor Bruce Christensen says in addition to a long term solution things are happening already.

The problem of vandalism has been on councils agenda since August of last year and thats one reason councilors Lori Ackerman, Larry Evans and Dan Davies voted in favour of the city report.

City staff will now await information from the Mayor and will also look at other options.
