The Flyers renew their rivalry with the Stony Plain Eagles this weekend, as the senior AAA teams face off in another exhibition series, this time at the Encana Events Centre, in Dawson Creek.
The games are on Saturday night at 8pm, and Sunday afternoon at 2pm.
The Flyers and Eagles battled earlier this year, splitting a two-game series in Stony Plain, Nov. 8&9. Fort St. John took the opening game of that series, a wild 6-5 shootout win, with the Eagles coming from behind to win Sunday’s rematch 4-2.
The Flyers were thrilled with the way the weekend went, particularly as the team was missing a few key players, playing with only 4 defencemen, and focusing more on testing their youth, than playing to win.
After Sunday’s game, coach Adam Brash told Moose FM he was very pleased with the way his team had played, and rated the weekend highly. [asset|aid=776|format=mp3player|formatter=asset_bonus|title=62ba86785ebd816985bbbe0adb4b40b2-brash-nov9success_1_Pub.mp3]
This weekend promises more of the same, with both teams now in mid-season form, and beginning to look ahead to the playoffs, including a possible matchup against each other in this year’s MacKenzie Cup.
Chad Vizzutti and Ryan Carter are expected to join the team for the weekend, while Adam Loncan has now rejoined the club, after missing the first 2 months of the season with an injury suffered in the summer. It will be a home game for Loncan, who is one of 3 Flyers who hail from Dawson Creek. The others – Dustin Kersey and Kip Noble – are looking forward to the weekend, particularly Noble, who missed the November series in Stony Plain due to illness. During Sunday’s game, fans will get an extra treat, as one lucky contestant will get a chance to shoot 20 pucks from the far blue-line, with 15 or more goals giving the winner a choice of a new Chevy Cobalt or new Chevy HHR.
Tune in to Moose FM on Friday afternoon (5:35ish), as Adam Brash will join Flyers broadcasters Jon Zacks and Mike Feeney, for a look ahead at the big weekend.
