The Huskies got the job done on Satuday night, beating the Sexsmith Vipers 8-0.
It took about 6 minutes for Captain Jon Spence to open the scoring, when he notched his 11th goal of the season, beating Vipers starter Stephen Siebert, who lasted for about half the game, before being replaced by Spencer Jebb.
Shortly thereafter, Cody Kalb scored his first of three goals in the game, his 22nd, 23rd, and 24th goals of the season. Kalb’s Linemates also got into the action, with Dylan Apsassin scoring 2 goals and 3 assists, while Brennan Billey, playing on the top unit in place of the absent Dan Pappin, added three assists.
Luke McInerney found himself on Steven Fast’s second line, and scored his sixth of the season 32 seconds into the second period. Fast and Kole Norris were both held goalless, but added 2 assists apeice.
Zack Blain stopped all 24 shots he faced, in his first start since Dec. 13th. Blain has been added to the roster for the all-star game in Whitecourt (Jan 17th), and will join the other Husky all-stars, which are Payden Wongstedt, Jon Spence, Steven Fast, Kole Norris, Cody Kalb, and Dan Pappin.
The huskies also had a great day on Sunday, when they, along with the Formula Tank female Flyers and other members of the community, brought in 17,400 pounds of food for the Salvation Army, in their annual Fill the Bus event.
With the all-star game next weekend, the Huskies don’t play again until Jan 24th & 25th, with home games against Peace River and Beaverlodge.
